Around 12:21 p.m., the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office arrested Morgan Nicole Copeland, 28, at 4059 Route 70-N in the Eidson community north of Rogersville.
She was released into the custody of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday and returned to Chattanooga, where she was being held in the Hamilton County Jail Friday on a $75,000 bond.
Copeland’s indictment affidavit alleges that on March 24 she killed Nicholas Jackson due to the unlawful distribution of fentanyl, the drug that was the proximate cause of his death.
She has multiple previous arrests in Hamilton County including this past April 2 for possession of heroin and driving on a suspended license; Dec. 12, 2017, for unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia; Dec. 7, 2016, for possession of meth for resale, possession of marijuana for resale, two gun possession charges and possession of drug paraphernalia; and May 27, 2015, for drug possession and drug paraphernalia.
Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman J. Matt Lea told the Times News, “Morgan Copeland has been charged with second-degree murder involving a case presently under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. As this is an ongoing investigation, any reports regarding this incident are not available.”
